sadeeq@awkum.edu.pk Currently, I am the head of my lab, and running different research projects funded by national and international donor agencies. We for the first time, have established a coordinated mechanism for surviellance of bacterial resistance in food-producing animals in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and have made a reference library of these isolates. Interestingly, we have recovered a number of interesting pan drug and extremely resistant Gram negative isolates from milk and poultry. To overcome the emerging phenomenon of drug resistance, we are also investigating alternative therapy like phage therapy against these resistant isolates. My focus of research is animal mastitis (bovine and goat) with focus on the causative agents, drug resistance mechanisms developed by these mastitis-causing bacteria, and development vaccine and treatment against them. Briefly, over the last couple of years I have developed versatile experience of different techniques by involving in different projects. During my PhD research I got the skills of recombinant proteins expression in different heterologous host for the purpose to study its function and role and its prospective applications in the recombinant vaccine development. During my Marie Curie Postdoc research project, I designed recombinant Listeria labelled with click beetle luciferase to establish animal model of infection for listeriosis. Alongside this, I also studied the mechanisms of resistance developed by listeria during food processing. |
